Trend Watch

This week I am inspired by the Nate Berkus show featuring Brad Goreski (my sister, Anna, will probably be the only person who knows this guy). He was the head stylist for Rachel Zoe on her show on Bravo. If you don't know who Rachel Zoe is, then you have landed on the WRONG blog. Here is his emergency kit for a big night out/formal event:
1) Dr. Scholls Jelly inserts for Heels $12.99
2) Wardrobe tape--2x stick (aka Topstick) $9.00
3) Command low-rise thong $20.00 (worth it!)

So anyway, Brad did a makeover on this cute girl and reminded me why I love, love, love this guy. She came out in a blazer, t-shirt, slim boyfriend jeans, a chunky necklace, and a black wedge heel with rope detail. I was so excited I had to claim it as my OFFICIAL outfit of summer!

Here are some other trends I am loving;
1) Cobalt blue--aka the new black. Although I am not a "blue" person these bright shades on a cute new bag or flats add just the right pop of color to an otherwise monochromatic colorscheme. (In my case, gray on black or vice versa)
2) Color block- sure Camilla Belle can pull this off with the help of her stylist and a 2K Gucci ensemble but how are the rest of us supposed to get it right?? I think using 3 or less colors is key. Think fuschia top, aqua wide belt, and cobalt pants with neutral shoes to complete this look.
3) Strappy Wedge-just bought a nude pair for my S-I-L and I am in good with the family, let's just say that. Look for ones with rope, cork, wood, etc. on the heel. My new ones have a metallic braided strap on top with cork wedges. Nine West is my top pick for these.
4)Bright Red/Coral lips--even if you are not a lipstick person, with the right shade you can't go wrong and I love lipstick because it can brighten your whole face when you don't have time for the "other stuff". I like Covergirl lipperfection in Burn--an orangey metallic red that is super flattering and under $10!

And here are some trends I am NOT loving:
1) Orange lipstick- Think orange popsicle, tangerine, etc. Some trends just need to be left alone 'cause I want to know who this looks good on??
2) Oxfords with shorts- If you live in L.A. I'm sure this is where it's at according to your stylist but I don't see this trend looking flattering on anyone.
3) Nautical stripe tops- Anything in the nautical range just makes me think of my Mom's Newport News catalogs from the '90's.

Bling of the week aka My personal wishlist:
1) Monogram Pendant,rose gold, $95. www.juliecollection.com
2) Lazer Cut rose gold bangle and hoops, $38 and $54. www.lisafreede.com
